Something is wrong when, as children, we are kept in the dark about money. So often, because our parents view money as an issue to struggle with, they do not talk to us about it. As children, many of us were not allowed to question anything, so we never asked about financial issues. To some, money was used as a punishment or reward. Tis molded and shaped our views about it. In other cases, our parents used money as a weapon against each other or against us. How can we expect to be financially responsible if we never received positive instructions about money?

Well, now it’s up to us. We owe it to ourselves, our self-esteem and our future to get the right idea about money. Many of us feel ashamed, guilty or uncomfortable when we ask questions about money. What we ned to accept and realize is that those who ask questions do not lose their way.

Money is nothing to be afraid of.

Part 3 of 3 of Lessons I’ve Learned from Quilting and How it Apply to Your Business

Part 3 of 3

Lesson 9. Working with substandard material didn’t and hasn’t stopped me from sewing. If I waited until I had my sewing room just the way I wanted, I would never quilt. I have had back aches, hurting knees, and I tend to quilt until my eyes hurt. One year I pieced 9 quilt tops in 5 months from a hotel room.

– When you love what you do, you will do whatever it takes to make it work. Regardless of the conditions, what you’re lacking, no matter the time or how much time you put into it, etc. When this happens and you find you would whether be doing this instead of anything else then this is YOUR PASSION!

Lesson 10. I let someone else (I’ve partner with someone) do the quilting design for me. I could do it, but I find it’s not worth the time or energy, it too difficult to do because I don’t have the proper equipment, and at this time it’s not what I’m interested in doing. I add the cost of having this service done to the total price of the quilt.

– You need to apply the same concept to your business. If there is an action that you really dislike doing it will be worth hiring someone to do it for you. Yes you might have to pay for the service(s), but when you add up the time, energy, aggravations, and your lack of interest, it will be more worth letting someone else do the work. Plus it will get done more efficiently and allow you to concentrate on your top income makers. You can add the cost to the price of your service and/or product.

Lesson 11. When I started quilting I felt others knew more than me and was a little envious of them. If there was a technique I wasn’t comfortable with and ask someone else to do it for me. What I found out was that they didn’t do it as well as I could so I started doing it myself and the more I did it the better I got at it.

– Don’t be envious of others, because, your unique voice and style will reach the people YOU need to reach and others can’t get your message out the way that you can!

Lesson 12. My inner voice and spirit guides me on the direction I want or need to take with my quilts. I once had someone tell me not to do a certain technique, but it’s what I liked and what my clients like.

– Stick with your true style and don’t let anyone talk you into something different. You know deep down inside what you want to do in your business, what you want it to look like and what you want your end result(s) to be.  Because others don’t have your business vision or plan then it’s hard for them to tell you what yours should be or look like. If you allow yourself to go by other’s agendas then you will find that you lose your drive, vision, and passion to do what you want to do.
